Scottie was born and raised in Miamisburg , Ohio but now make his home in Eastern Ky . He got his first real job playing lead guitar with a band called the Wilson Brothers at age 15 thanks to Ralph Stanley. Scottie toured with this band for 2 yrs and had the privedleage recording an album with them titled Lonesome Old Home, on Vetco Records.
After playing with the Wilson Brothers, Scottie moved on and played with a local band in Dayton Ohio that included Noah Crase and Clarance Baker and his wife Wanda. He played around local festivals with this band for a couple years.
Scottie then formed his own band with his friend Danny Hagar and they called themselves Sparks and Hagar and played local bars around the Dayton area for around a year. December of 86, Danny lost his life in a car accident in Nashville Tn. Scottie continued playing the local bars with a buddy from Maysville Ky, Lester Williams. They then changed the name of the band to Scottie Sparks, Lester Williams and the Ky Bluegrass Boys.
In 1988, Scottie decided to take a break from his own band and went to work for Dave Evans and River Bend. Scottie traveld with Dave for around year and then moved to Florida for a couple of months and went to work for Tommy Cordel and Big Timber. After being in Florida for a few months he relized Florida wasnt where he wanted to be and came back to Kentucky and put his own band back together.
he went back to doing his own thing with his own band, and recorded the Cd self titled. after around 3 years, Scottie decided it was alot easier to work with another band then to have his own so he decided to go with a band called Redwing, Scottie worked with this band for around 3 years and recorded a Cd with them titled Redwing, The Right Combination. After that band broke up he went with a band called unlimited tradition.
Scottie traveled with Unlimited Tradition for a couple of yrs and recorded a Cd with them titled She's Gone on Doobie Shea Records.
After Umlimited Tradition broke up, Scottie went back to work with Dave Evans, and had the honor of being on the Rebel Recording, Hang out a Light.
On August 19, 2001 Scottie went to work for The Lost and Found. He made his first appearce with the band in Dayton Ohio at the East Wood Park.
The band now consist of Allen Mills on Bass and Lead and Tenor Vocals, Scottie Sparks on Guitar,Lead and Tenor Vocals, Ronald Smith on Banjo and Baritone Vocals, and our newest member of the group is Scott Napier on Mandolin and joining in on some vocal, takeing the place of Dempsey Young who lost his life back in December of 2006.
The guys are fortunate enough to have been in the studio working on a new cd which will be released March 24, 2009, and this Cd will feature Dempsey on 7 cuts and we are very happy to beable to share some of Dempsey’s last recording with the fans.
In 1997, Scottie had the priviledge of being part of the Stanley Tradition album which was nominated for recorded event of the yr, and was nominated for a grammy award. He also got to be a part of the Stanley Gospel album. In 1998 this album was nominated for gosple recorded event of the yr and won.
Scottie has had the privilage of being apart of the celebration of life album a live recording recorded at the musician’s against child hood cancer festival in Columbus Ohio. it was nominated for album of the yr and won in 2006.
When Scottie started with the band Lost and Found, they were in the middle of putting out a new Cd and he was fortunate enought to be a part of that and was on 4 cuts, and even more fortuate enought to see one of their songs entitled Johnson’s grocery store go to number 1 on the bluegrass charts.
Scottie is looking forward to the release of the new Cd entitled Love, Lost and Found and hopes that you enjoy it as much as they do. He is also still enjoying traveling with the guys, and really feels honord to be a part of such a wonderful Band.
Scottie has several guitars that he enjoys playing, but his favorite is his 1946 Martin D18, and he uses a Bluechip Pick.
On a more personal note, Scottie and Tammy Sparks were married on April 15, 2000. They have one son, Martin Scot Sparks, born Febuary 22, 2000. Martin is in the making of becoming a great musician just like his dad.
